Gary Schocker Master Classes

For many years, I studied flute and piano with flutist, pianist and composer Gary Schocker in New York City. When he asked me to run his master classes, I wanted them to be in the beautiful Hudson Valley. I have loved the atmosphere of Holy Cross Monastery since my first visit there, and we settled on this bucolic location on the Hudson River for flute classes for our first class, in 2002. Since then, we have had at least two every year, until the Covid-19 Pandemic. We shifted the classes to a monthly online model, allowing students from all over the world to easily access one of the world's greatest teachers and performers. Classes are attended by students in the U.S.A., Italy, Australia, England, Canada, Japan -- and that's just in our first year! When we started in person classes again in the summer of 2022, we kept the Zoom component, and will continue to do both in the future.

Over the years, we have had wonderful musical experiences with hundreds of students. Gary Schocker has a positive, encouraging approach and the class is non-competitive, so that each student may focus on bettering his or her own playing.
